Affordable Housing
Based in Eugene, Oregon, Aligned Architecture partners with nonprofit developers and housing cooperatives to design community-centered affordable housing in Oregon and California, including both rental and co-op projects.
What is Affordable Housing?
Affordable housing is income-restricted or subsidized housing for households earning below a set threshold, typically a percentage of area median income or AMI. It is usually funded through a mix of low-income housing tax credits, public subsidies, grants, and philanthropy, and developed by nonprofits, housing authorities, or mission-driven developers.
Our Approach to Affordable Housing Design
We design compact, efficient floor plans that can repeat across units or buildings, lowering construction costs and design time. Shared courtyards, gardens, and walkable, human-scaled layouts help these communities function as real neighborhoods. Durable materials, passive design, and solar-ready orientation keep long-term operating and utility costs low for residents.
