Topaz Residence
Inspired by Aligned Architecture’s Deerhorn residence in Oregon, the Topaz home emerged from a client-initiated connection through our website and evolved into a highly personal response to place, lifestyle, and views. While Deerhorn provided an initial point of reference, the design was carefully reimagined to replace a beloved family cabin and to fully engage a dramatic sloped site overlooking the surrounding town and distant mountain ranges.
The three-bedroom, two-and-a-half-bath home is organized to balance openness and retreat. A generous yoga room opens to the outdoors through patio doors, extending daily rituals into the landscape and reinforcing a strong connection between interior and exterior spaces. The primary bathroom offers both a soaking tub and a walk-in shower, creating a restorative space designed for comfort and ease.
At the heart of the home, the great room features a rising roof and direct access to an elevated, covered deck that captures expansive, long-range views. In contrast, the primary bedroom is oriented uphill, fostering a sense of privacy and refuge from neighboring activity while maintaining a strong relationship to the site.
Sustainability is integral to the design of Topaz. The home utilizes a hybrid timber-frame construction system that supports structural efficiency while reducing material waste. Exposed timber posts, beams, rafters, and structural roof decking celebrate the craft of building and bring warmth, texture, and durability to the interior spaces, reinforcing a timeless connection between structure and architecture.
Topaz reflects Aligned Architecture’s holistic approach to residential design—one grounded in listening, thoughtful adaptation, and careful coordination—resulting in a home that honors its inspiration while being uniquely shaped by its owners and its setting.
