South 41st Street Housing

South 41st Street Housing is a family-focused affordable housing community designed by Aligned Architecture for DevNW. Located just one block from Main Street, the project is rooted in walkability and access, placing residents within easy reach of public transportation, schools, parks, and everyday urban amenities while fostering a strong sense of neighborhood connection.

The 29,510 square foot development includes 28 apartments across four buildings – two two-story and two three-story structures – offering a mix of one-, two-, and three-bedroom homes designed to support families at a variety of stages. All units feature cross-ventilation with at least two exposures, promoting comfort, daylight, and healthy indoor environments. Each apartment also includes a generous private patio, extending living spaces outdoors and reinforcing connections to the shared landscape.

The site is intentionally designed to encourage community interaction and play. Central outdoor spaces include a natural play area with an eco-friendly play structure, two pavilions, a rain garden, landscaped gathering areas, and a designated pet relief zone. These amenities create opportunities for informal connection, recreation, and respite for residents of all ages.

A centrally located commons building supports both daily needs and long-term stability, housing a large meeting room, on-site service offices, a warming kitchen, and a laundry room with views overlooking the play area, allowing caregivers to remain connected while tending to everyday tasks. Bike storage and an on-site solar power generator further support sustainability, mobility, and reduced operational costs.

South 41st Street Housing reflects Aligned Architecture’s commitment to designing equitable, resilient communities – places where thoughtful planning, family-centered amenities, and sustainable strategies come together to support long-term affordability and a strong sense of home.
