Anthracite Residence

Inspired by a previously completed Aligned Architecture home in Oregon, the Anthracite residence began with a familiar design language and evolved through a highly personal, collaborative process. By listening closely to the homeowners’ ideas, needs, and priorities, the design was thoughtfully reinterpreted to suit this family, their lifestyle, and the unique setting—resulting in a home that feels authentic and entirely their own.

This four-bedroom, two-and-a-half-bath custom home is designed to embrace its Crested Butte context while supporting everyday living with comfort and efficiency. A covered deck extending from the great room creates a strong connection to the surrounding Colorado landscape, offering a sheltered outdoor space for year-round enjoyment. The structure was carefully engineered to accommodate heavy winter snow loads, ensuring durability and long-term performance.

Inside, the home balances function and beauty through spaces tailored to how the family lives. The primary bathroom includes both a soaking tub and a walk-in shower, creating a calming retreat at the end of the day. Sustainability is integral to the design, with a hybrid timber-frame construction system that reduces material waste while providing structural efficiency. Exposed timber posts, beams, rafters, and structural roof decking celebrate the craft of construction and bring warmth, texture, and longevity to the interior spaces.

Anthracite reflects Aligned Architecture’s holistic design approach, one that prioritizes listening, clear communication, and thoughtful coordination that results in a home that is deeply personal, resilient, and designed to support both life today and into the future.
